When Spring Comes . . .

Of course I'll buy a billion seed and go ahead and plant them, both flowers and vegetable.  I also intend to buy more bird feeders and different things I can feed the squirrels in and start them eating again.  And windchimes.  I want a dozen sets.  I want this yard filled with the music of the wind!  Should we have some, we tend to have such still summers.  Today it's warm and sunny, some of my plants are faring from the winter so looking forward to spring in all her blooming glory!

FINALLY!!!

My Angelique begonia finally came up I was so stoked.  Then went out to water today and there is torrenia growing in my kalanchoe and my mini rose pots.  I was delighted!  Such pretty little blooms!  A lot of the stuff is going south because of too little water and they are done blooming.  Hope to have a real show in the spring next year.

New Bulbs . . .

Just got all the bulbs I've received planted, not sure how they are going to do so many of them I think I waited too long to plant, but I think most should do well.  The Toad Lilies are plants with roots, the other lilies I got were bulbs.  The Angelique begonia was like a button but I hope I planted it right and it comes up, I just got it a few days ago so it should be ok.  I watered it in and finally poked holes in that pot so it drains.  Can't wait for them to start coming up.  The ones I worry the most about it the hostas, that's the one the dog got but some of them look pretty viable so we'll see.  Pictures when they start to come up!  Woot!  Fingers crossed!

C'mon Mother Nature!

We had a horrible storm last night, a brutal one.  I bet we got 6" of rain.  Now it's all muddy again and puddly.  I was going to go out and plant the bulbs I got so far but it's too miserable out there.  Tomorrow will be clear and cool but of course it'll take days for the water to subside.  SO pissed and we're about to freeze ... it turned off cold last night.  Supposed to only be 41 tonight.  BUT when I do get the bulbs planted I'll FINALLY have my toad lilies, summer lilies, my angelique begonia got here yesterday ... just gorgeous bulbs that will come up year after year (count on it!).  So with that in mind I'll go wait for Spring to kick back in.

Splendid Observation Today . . .

I went out to get another look at the winter killed garden and my hosta are coming up and my roses are just fluffy and gorgeous and guess what?  Strawberry plant is making strawberries.  Yep.  Blossoms, so I know they will make berries.  I hope it continues to grow and get bigger and trail over the pot.  Nothing else showing signs of life yet and my bulbs still have yet to ship, I ordered them the 7th so I hope at some time soon they ship.  In the meantime I'm getting bags of soil and preparing.  Going to start my seeds too as soon as it's dry enough to be out there I'm still wading water.  Cannot wait I am going to have such a great garden this year and I have devised an overwintering plot that can't fail!  No more killed plants man I got this COVERED!  Yes that's a clue!

Spent More Money . . .

The Bletilla orchid I found cheaper at Michigan Bulb and went ahead and ordered them.  I get 3 colors, blue, purple, and white.  Pretty!  They are the same price as Breck's, but I got a $20 coupon and only $8.95 shipping so instead of the $72 order at Breck's it was $48 at Michigan Bulb.  I have ordered from them before but unfortunately never planted the bulbs I got so these I'll absolutely plant!

Mixed Hardy Ground Orchids

This is them.  Very happy can't wait till they get here and I think that's going to be a long time.  Surely it'll be in March but it could be as late as April or May I certainly hope not.

Plants, Plants, Plants . . .

I have an order coming at some point from Breck's, I finally ordered some toad lily bulbs and a beautiful Angelique begonia.  In my cart at Wayside is Caladium and Stargazer lily.  Next order from Breck's will be Bletilla orchid as mine was murdered by I know not, dogs, coons, possums ... not sure but I found the pot on it's side, it's contents strewn.  Winter has taken out just about my entire garden.  Only my two miniature roses and my strawberry plant is showing signs of life.  All others I either need to wait and see or trash and recycle the soil.  I have no hope for the succulents and cacti, starting all over in THAT department.

I have a ton of seed I am going to plant.  Okra, Brussels sprouts, cucumber, bell pepper, jalapeno peppers, eggplant and quite a few flowers.  I need to get some gardening tools, I'd like to get a hoe if we don't have one and I don't think we do.  Post hole digger, but no hoe I do not believe.  We'll see there is time.  I will wait possibly till mid-march to plant, make sure the freezes are all gone.
